The Tribeca Film Festival now in its 10th year announced the 44 films selected for its Spotlight a
nd Cinemania sections, which is being led by Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga, new filmmakers Michael Winterbottom, Alex Gibney and Tsui Hari. There will also be documentaries about Ozzy Osbourne, Carol Channing the famous Manhattan Disco Limelight night club.
There will be a mix of many different kinds of movies according to the director of programming David Kwok. The festival will showcase what happening in cinema within the US and abroad.
The festival will feature a documentary about a community in Haiti that rallies to build a movie theater in Sun City Picture House. This is a must see movie for the Caribbean community, it is a joyful story of a community torn apart by disaster then united in a singular vision of brining back cinema to a country destroyed.
The festival will also feature local Brooklyn based actor Alessandro Nivola who stars in Janie Jones. He plays a rock musician who goes on a road trip with the teenage daughter that he just met.
The Tribeca Film Festival will run from April 20th to May 1st in New York City. For more information click on the link.

With the Brotherhood Crusade as they feted musical song stylist, legend and humanitarian, Nancy Wilson, recipient of the 2010 Pioneer of African American Achievement Award. The event took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Friday, November 5, 2010. Ms. Wilson was honored for her courage in breaking down barriers for economic, social, political and moral justice. Berry Gordy, Arsenio Hall, Bill Duke, Congresswoman Diane Watson, Congresswoman-elect Karen Bass, Dawnn Lewis, William Allen Young, were in attendance. Maxine Tulloch is finally living her lifelong dream of hosting her own talk show. As executive producer of The Maxine Tulloch Show, Ms. Tulloch interviews business professionals, entertainers and various personalities within the Caribbean and American communities. USmile Magazine caught up with Ms. Tulloch to talk about her show and what she hopes to accomplish in the near future.
USM: Can you tell us why you feel you are living your dream?
MT: I always wanted to be a broadcast journalist since I was in high school. My mom thought that I should go into the nursing field. She wanted me to have a stable career. I think she was concerned because there weren’t any blacks on TV at the time so she felt I wouldn’t be successful as a journalist. Read the full story »
